REFLECTION
Experience
Studying typography has been an enriching and eye-opening experience for me.
The tasks in this module have allowed me to delve into the world of typography
in various aspects including type expression, text formatting, and type
design. Although there were struggles while doing the tasks especially in the
beginning of this module as I was not familiar with typography itself like the
basics, terms and so on because I did not really look into this area in my
life before, but I think this actually makes me feel that I need to learn,
understand and put in more efforts in this module so that I was able to use
the knowledge in the tasks for now and also in the future. Undeniably, in the
beginning of this module, it was quite exhausting as there is task we had to
do and also learn the theories of typography at the same time. In this module,
each task has their own challenges. However, I think this module is the most
enjoyable module for me in this semester as I like how it was organised and
also it allows me to gain new knowledge that I have never learned before. I am
excited to apply my newfound knowledge and skills in my work, I also hope that
I can remember the terms and rules that I had learned in this module because
Advanced Typography awaits me in the next semester…
Observation
Through this module, I observed that writing down notes while learning and
watching the lecture videos actually helped us to remember the basics, terms,
rules, etc more easily. I also observed that listening to feedbacks by Mr
Vinod, not only to me but also to other peers, allows me to be more mindful
and careful to not make the same mistakes; through the feedbacks, I’m also
able to learn some tips from Mr Vinod’s experiences, like when he shared his
type designs, from inspiration to the outcome. Through the process of
completing the tasks, I learned that we must pay attention to the details
because in typography, the details can affect the whole outcome, for example
in text formatting, details such as ragging, cross alignments will make the
final outcome looks different. I also observed that completing the task step
by step is important as this allows me to understand deeper what am I going to
create, from the first step to the final step, I am able to have a clear
  direction on the tasks.
Findings
Before taking typography, I thought typography is just words. But after
learning this module, I realised that there are a lot of things in typography
we have to learn, to follow, to pay attention, it is more than just words. In
this module, I have a chance to really look into typography and complete tasks
that enable me to apply my newfound knowledge. Now, I found the power of type
expressions in conveying meaning and evoking emotions that I did not notice
before; learning about the rules and principles such as line spacing, kerning,
and alignment has enabled me to create harmonious and legible designs that
guide the reader's eye; I also found that creating my own typefaces has
required a deep understanding of letterforms, proportions, and spacing, and
the process also demanded patience, attention to detail. This module has made
me realize that typography is not just about selecting aesthetically pleasing
fonts, but also about optimizing the readability and comprehension of the
  text.
