INDEX:
2A. Double Exposure
In this activity, we are to merge multiple images together into one image, which also refers to double exposure. The goal of double exposure effect is to make the images look more surreal, emotional, or humorous. They usually feature silhouettes.
Part A
We downloaded a few images provided by Mr Fauzi and we followed the tutorial video and tutorial slides to learn and apply double exposure effect using Adobe Photoshop.
Images provided:
I followed the tutorial step by step, as this is the first time I tried double exposure effect using Adobe Photoshop, I was a little confused for some of the steps, however, I managed to overcome and learn it after playing back the video a few times.Outcome:
I am satisfied with the result as this is my first time doing this. I feel confident to do the next exercise and project using this effect as I think it is a great tool to express our imagination using the images.
Part B
In part B, we are required to apply double exposure effect into our own photos. I wanted to try making double exposure effect using silhouette. So, I took a photo of silhouette of myself and use it in part B. I searched for some references and inspirations in Pinterest before I started. I also downloaded some pictures that I think I can use in my double exposure exercise. Here are the pictures I used in my exercise.
I am quite satisfied about the result as this is my first time using double exposure effect for my own picture. I think double exposure is very fun and it gives us opportunities to make our pictures as creative as our imaginations by combining different elements such as people, landscape, objects and so on.
2B. Poster Design
For project 2B, we are going to design a poster using mainly photographs elements for Maybank Poster Competition with its theme MyTiger Values. We have to create a poster using Adobe Photoshop based on one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that we chose ourselves. There are 12 chosen SDG goals for this competition. We have to create a poster that interprets the chosen goal through Maybank TIGER core values of teamwork, integrity, growth, excellence & efficiency and relation building.

Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action
*Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
SDG 13 is focused on taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. It aims to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change, including through increased resilience and low-carbon development. This goal emphasizes the need to reduce emissions from transportation, energy, and other sectors, as well as promote sustainable land use practices and conservation of forests and other natural resources.
Targets:
-
STRENGTHEN RESILIENCE AND ADAPTIVE CAPACITY TO CLIMATE RELATED
DISASTERS
Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries. -
INTEGRATE CLIMATE CHANGE MEASURES INTO POLICIES AND PLANNING
Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning. -
BUILD KNOWLEDGE AND CAPACITY TO MEET CLIMATE CHANGE
Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning. -
IMPLEMENT THE UN FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE
Implement the commitment undertaken by developed-country parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to a goal of mobilizing jointly $100 billion annually by 2020 from all sources to address the needs of developing countries in the context of meaningful mitigation actions and transparency on implementation and fully operationalize the Green Climate Fund through its capitalization as soon as possible. -
PROMOTE MECHANISMS TO RAISE CAPACITY FOR PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT
Promote mechanisms for raising capacity for effective climate change-related planning and management in least developed countries and small island developing States, including focusing on women, youth and local and marginalized communities.
Initially, I searched for some inspiration and references about posters of climate actions from Pinterest. Besides finding posters of climate change, I also find some posters that is related to tigers as the theme of this competition is MyTiger Values. I try to find some posters or artworks that are photoshopped so that they are more related to what are we going to do.
After doing researches and finding references, I decided to focus on promoting sustainable land use practices and conservation of forests.
Sketches + Development
Here are some of the images I used while sketching:
Sketches:
I roughly arranged the images into the ideas in my head and see the outcome. I'm quite satisfied with the first one but the second and third seems a little bit too messy for me. I decided to changed the images and see the results. I applied the knowledge and skills that we obtained from the previous exercises while creating the posters.
Development #1:
For the first sketch, I made some changes on the background and add a tiger
into the poster to match with the theme. The concept of this idea is how
wildlife animals wish to go back to their natural habitats that had been
developed into cities filled with buildings.
For the other sketch, I changed the choice of images by using less fancy images as the background so that it does not look too messy. I also used white tigers because I think they are more suitable as the tone of this poster is cooler. The concept of this poster is how natural forests had been developed into cities and the vogue reflection of the tigers symbolised the decreasing amounts of wildlife animals because of various factors such as loss of habitat, climate change, overexploitation of natural resources, pollution and so on.
Development #2
I developed both ideas by adding adjustment layers in photoshop just like what we had learned in Week 4. For the first idea, I also added the reflection of the tiger like we did in the exercise in Project 1 so that it looks more realistic. In the first idea, I added water ripple effect on the water as the tiger was stepping on the river.

Final Submission
"Back To The Nature"
This poster serves as a powerful visual reminder of the critical importance of protecting forests, the natural habitats of wildlife animals, in the face of rapid urbanization. Destruction and degradation of natural habitats due to activities such as deforestation, urbanization, agriculture, and infrastructure development leave wildlife animals without suitable habitats, disrupting their feeding, breeding, and migration patterns. The tiger in the poster symbolises how wildlife animals wish to go back to their natural habitats that had been developed into cities filled with buildings. In essence, the poster celebrates the resilience and beauty of animals as they reclaim their rightful place in nature, while also reminding us of our shared responsibility to protect and preserve their habitats for the benefit of future generations.
Project 2A: Double Exposure
I think engaging in double exposure exercises has been a fascinating and enriching experience. This tool allows me to explore the unique artistic technique of merging two distinct images into a single composition. This exercise also encouraged me to think beyond the literal interpretation of the images.
Project 2B: Poster Design
For this poster, I was able to apply the techniques or tools while designing the poster that needs to match with the chosen SDG. It allowed me to bring together various elements and create a visually captivating and impactful composition. Through this project, I had refined my skills in manipulating images, adjusting colors, and applying various effects.
