REFLECTION

Through this module, I have learnt and explore about the elements and principles of design such as contrasts, gestalt theories, symbol, word, image and so on. I also have an opportunity to develop an awareness of the design in their everyday environment and learn how to critique and interpret an artwork through visual analysis (observation, analysis and interpretation). Through the exercises and projects, I also learnt to apply the elements and principles of design while creating a design work so that the message and purposes of the artwork can be portrayed to the audience. In the final project, I am able to create and spread awareness of socio-cultural issues and responsibilities through designing a poster for the SDG.

I enjoyed the whole module very much as I had the opportunities to create artworks with different theme and purposes. I would like to thank my lecturer, Mr Charles for teaching us through a fun way so that we will not be boring in the classes. Through the first project, I was able to look into myself as I need to create a self-portrait and I think this is a very important and meaningful time as I can reflect on myself. At this stage, I was able to learn and practice on applying the knowledge of design principles into my designs. I barely thought of any idea in the beginning of the first project, I think this is the hardest part in this module, fortunately I was able to find inspirations and ideas after doing some research and reflection on myself. The final project was fun too as I need to design a poster based on a goal. For me, sometimes it is easier to create a design with purpose rather than just creating a design. This project gives me a time to look into the current world issues and enable me to communicate with the issue by my design.

Designing is a complex and rewarding process that requires creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Through this module, I learned that it is important to portray out our ideas by sketching them out so that we can have a clear direction to the final progress and create an artwork that is able to communicate with the purposes. Designing can be a fulfilling process, as it allows designers to bring their ideas to life and create meaningful solutions to real-world problems. However, it can also be a challenging process, as designers must navigate complex technical constraints and the subjective nature of design aesthetics we must consider various factors such as materials, colours, shapes, and sizes, among others, to create a final product that is visually appealing and meets the desired outcomes.
