INSTRUCTIONS
Project 3: Channel Identity
For project 3, it is a continuous project from project 2, channel bumper. We are required to create a channel ident motion graphic video for the chosen brand from project 2. We are allowed to use the same elements from channel bumper for this project.
Storyboard
I’ve created a storyboard to visualize the dynamic and stylish essence of Converse’s Run Star Trainer. The storyboard outlines my idea on the motion graphics.
Motion Graphics - After Effects [1]
Before starting on the motion graphics, I collected more graphics elements especially the pictures of Run Star Trainers for the new project.
I moved the pictures into Photoshop and Pro create to cut out the subjects. Then, I moved the elements to Photoshop to create different layers. After that, I imported the files into After Effects and create compositions. I add camera and null object (controller) to the composition. I also link null object to the camera, and other layers to the controller.
From the cut outs, I arranged all different kinds of sneakers from the model's sneaker by positioning them. Then, I used controller to zoom in the Run Star Trainer's sneaker. Then, using controller, I zoomed into different parts of the sneaker and used arrows to point out the features. I used masking to show the arrows and also the text of the features.
After that, I adjusted the duration of each Run Star Trainer's sneaker of different colours to create a cut to transition for all sneakers. Then, in a new composition, I wanted to create a stamp effect of "New Collection". I downloaded a stamp of new collection. Then, I make it 3D and use depth (position) and keyframe them closely from front to back.
In a new composition, I also wanted to make the tearing paper effect to show the name of the collection, which is "Run Star Trainer". I used pen tool to create the shape of tearing. Then, I applied the effect of roughen edges to the shape. I added the text of "Run Star Trainer" and masking to the text. I moved the shape followed the masking of the text.
Lastly, I moved all the composition together to connect all of them.
Motion Graphics - After Effects [2]
After consultation in week 11, Mr Fauzi gives me some ideas on playing around with some video and typography. Therefore, I redo some of the compositions to try the new ideas. I kept some of the ideas from [1] and added more typography. I added 'RUN STAR TRAINER' and use position and rotation to place and move the sneakers.
For the last part in this composition, I added masking to the text and used position to move the sneaker like it wipes out the text.
From the advertisement of Converse, I cut out a small part where the models walk pass. I imported the video to After Effects and used Roto Brush Tool to remove background of the video. Then, I added typography behind the video and also in front of the video to create the layers. I used fill and outline for the text. For the final composition, I used cut outs of 2 models and used rotation to animate them. Then, I placed different angles of the sneaker using position. At last, I added the text from the advertisement of Converse and used position to create a pushing effect.
Finally, I added a background music to the motion graphics. I downloaded the background music Pixabay. Then, I edited them in Premiere Pro.

FEEDBACKS
Week 11 / Project 3
Can get ideas from Converse advertisement. Include the advertisement tagline from YouTube description and play with typography motions. Can use video in front and put the typography at the back.
REFLECTION
The motion graphics project for Converse’s Run Star Trainer was an exciting opportunity to use technical tools and animation techniques to visually communicate the collection of Converse Run Star Trainer. I was quite unsure on how to do it initially, from storyboard, I created the first motion graphics. However, I was unsatisfied with it as I felt like the compositions are very chaotic and it seems very abrupt. Therefore, with the consultation session with sir, I got suggestion on how to improve my work. At last, I was able to come out with a better motion graphics. This project allowed me to push my After Effects skills further, particularly in keyframing intricate movements, managing depth with multi-layered compositions, and using a camera and null object to create smooth and dynamic animations. These techniques enabled me to emphasize the shoe's unique features while maintaining an engaging visual flow. I also learned to remove background and play with layering of the video and typography in a composition. Through this process, I not only improved my technical proficiency but also learned to balance detailed execution with visually engaging communication. I developed a deeper understanding of how motion graphics can effectively convey a message and leave a lasting impression on the audience.
