WEEK 10 (8.6.2023)

Lecture

Adobe After Effects

In week 10, Mr Fauzi introduced us about Adobe After Effect (Ae). Adobe After Effects is a 2.5D animation software used for animation, visual effects, and motion picture compositing. This software is used in the post-production phase, and has hundreds of effects that can be used to manipulate imagery. This allows you to combine layers of video and images into the same scene. Motion graphics animation works by manipulating vector and rasterized art to create and tell a story.

Compositing Layers in Photoshop

All the layers need to be arrange and rename accordingly so that it will be organize and easy to be animated in After Effects.

Compositing Layers in After Effects

Basically we can import elements such as images, video, vector and more into After Effects. All the layer elements need to be organized and synchronized to the external software platforms such as Photoshop & Illustrator. After Effects files does not embed its media, it links to it.

Tutorial + Practical

In this section, we first watched a demo video of After Effect by Mr Fauzi during Tutorial class. In the video, we are shown how we can animate the images/objects that are imported from Adobe Photoshop. After watching the video, Mr Fauzi demoed to us step by step, from creating new file to rendering file, so that we can write or record down the steps and can refer back to it when we are doing the exercise in practical class.

After Effects Exercise

For practical section, we need to download the .psd file from Google Drive provided and animate it with the tools that are shown during tutorial class such as position, masking and scale. Mr Fauzi also taught us a few shortcut keys that are useful to us while doing the exercise. As this is my first time adding animation using Adobe After Effect, I'm not that familiar with those tools and functions.

Original Image from Photoshop

I tried to use the tools we learned as a practice and let myself to become more familiar with this application. The final outcome of this exercise should be a composition setting with 1080 px (Width) x 1920 px (Height), duration 15 seconds. Actually I'm not quite sure with the outcome of my animation but I think it was a good try.
